Met owners eye Europe

The owners of London's 155-bedroom Metropolitan hotel are eyeing a move into mainland Europe.

The hotel is owned by Singaporean billionaire Ong Beng Seng and his wife Christina through their company Como Investment Holdings.

Former Savoy Group managing director Ramón Pajares joined the Como board earlier this month with a brief to advise the company on opportunities for expansion into Europe.

But a company spokesman said it was unlikely that the Metropolitan would be replicated elsewhere. "The Metropolitan is not a brand name," he said.

The Ongs also own London's Halkin hotel, the Kuda Hurra resort in the Maldives and Parrot Cay in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

They have a major stake in the Four Seasons hotel in London's Canary Wharf.
