MOT tests for Bute tourism

HOTELS on the Isle of Bute are to undergo MOT-style business evaluations as part of a campaign to rejuvenate the island's tourism industry.

Initiated by Argyll & Islands Enterprise, an offshoot of Highlands and Islands Enterprise, the two-day examinations will assess every aspect of a hotel, from the condition of its buildings to the facilities it offers.

Local enterprise company grants and loan aid may be available when expenditure is necessary. Consultants will return to participating hotels up to three times over the following two years to assess implementation of recommendations.

Around half of the island's 30 hotels have accepted the offer to take part.
