Mulligan's will not be spiked, says Whitbread

Whitbread said last week that its four Mulligan's fish restaurants would continue to operate, despite the closure of a fifth outlet near Maidstone, Kent.

A spokeswoman said the outlet had closed simply because it was in the wrong location and the remaining restaurants would continue trading as normal.

But she admitted Whitbread was concentrating on brands such as Brewers Fayre and TGI Friday's, and had no plans to open more Mulligan's outlets.

The Kent outlet opened in the village of Wateringbury three years ago, converted from a pub called the Duke Without a Head.
