New Jury's hotel set for south London

Irish-owned hotel group Jurys Doyle looks set to open a new three-star hotel in Croydon, south London.

The proposal, to build a 14-storey hotel with 240 bedrooms on the site of an existing 1960s office block, was given the go-ahead by Croydon council's planning committee last night.

But permission is still subject to Jurys agreeing to make a financial contribution towards a programme of improvements to Croydon town centre.

Jurys Doyle has paid some £3m for the freehold of the building, according to a database of London property compiled by EGi Research. The new hotel will include a restaurant, bar and meeting rooms.

Jurys Doyle already has three hotels in London and is currently developing a fourth, on Great Russell Street near the British Museum. It will have 170 bedrooms and is due to open next month.
