New report on industry health
The British Hospitality Association has published its third annual compilation of research into the hotel, restaurant and contract catering business.
The report, British Hospitality: Trends and Statistics 2000, draws on research from a range of sources including tourist boards, consultants and government agencies as well as annual reports of hotel and leisure groups.
Among the facts it highlights are that more than half of all overseas tourists to the UK visited London, and that British tourists spend far more overseas than foreign visitors do in Britain.
The report also reveals that the UK hotel industry, with more than 60,000 hotels and guest houses, has an annual turnover of more than £10b.
The budget hotels sector remains the fastest growing, and in 1999 there were more than 55,000 budget bedrooms in the UK. Whitbread's Travel Inn has more hotels than any other chain.
The report costs £195. For a copy, contact the BHA on: 020 7404 7744.
