New rules on pregnancy

Catering employers face prosecution if they fail to adhere to new guidelines concerning the employment of pregnant women.

Research by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) showed that many businesses were unfamiliar with this area of the law, and knew even less about what they had to do.

A new information sheet, Health and safety of new and expectant mothers in the catering industry, published by the HSE, outlines the dangers that pregnant women face and the precautions employers must take.

Copies of Catering Information Sheet No 19 are available free on-line at www.hsebooks.co.uk or by phoning 01787 881165.
