"New York is safe" says tourism boss

New York is still a safe place to visit despite today's plane disaster, according to the city's director of tourism.

A visibly shocked Markly Wilson, director of the New York state division of tourism, was reacting to the news of the Amercian Airlines plane crash on the New York City borough of Queens. He is currently in London attending the World Travel Market exhibition at Earl's Court.

Wilson said he would be unable to guess what the affects of the crash will be on the city's tourism until the authorities had determined whether it was an accident or another terrorist attack. "The affect will be determined by the cause," he said.

But he still insisted New York should remain a popular tourist destination. "We'd still like you to visit and enjoy New York," he said.
