No burger handouts for homeless

BURGER King is providing homeless families with accommodation above its Queensway branch in London, but the fast-food chain says it is not about to hand out free meals.

Following an approach by West Hampstead Housing Association, Burger King agreed to convert redundant space above its restaurant in Queensway into three floors of flats, each with three bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom.

But allowing the use of its property, for which it will receive rent, is the extent of the burger giant's generosity.

"We're not here to hand out free meals to homeless people," said its property manager.
