Nutrition advice

The Government has delayed publication of industry guidelines on nutrition by six months, the Department of Health revealed last week.

The guidelines for fast food outlets and restaurants are part of the Government's 1992 plans to improve the nation's health. They were expected to be published this autumn but have now been put back to next spring.

The Government's Nutrition Task Force is planning to spend this extra time consulting restaurant owners.

The guidance is expected to give advice on available foods and healthy cooking methods, and help on signposting foods so consumers can make healthy choices. Guidance for hospital, school and workplace caterers are also expected in the next six months.
