OBS contracts right on track

OBS Services, the company created last October through a management buy-out of British Rail's on-board catering division, has retained the first of its contracts to come up for re-tender.

The company has been awarded a new seven-year contract to provide on-board services on South West Trains between London and Bournemouth, Dorset. It is also providing catering on the operating company's London to Exeter line, previously run by rival rail caterer Rightlines.

OBS managing director Terry Coyle declined to reveal the value of the contract, which started this week, but said its duration reflected a "substantial" investment in new trolleys and refurbishment of its bases where food is prepared.

Mr Coyle said the new multi-temperature trolleys would enable staff to serve passengers hot and cold food in their seats.
