Perfect 10
Geronimo Inns opened the East Hill public house in Wandsworth, London, on Monday. The 60-seat pub-restaurant is owners Rupert and Joanna Clevely's 10th property in the capital, three of which have won entries in the Michelin guide. The pubs aim for "simple but imaginative menus" and offer more than 20 wines by the glass.
Worldwide broths
Soup Dragon, a 75-seat soup restaurant and take-away, opens this week in the Food Emporium in Leeds. Chef and co-owner Simon Rimmer hosts Granada Television's A Taste for Travel food series. The restaurant will offer a variety of soups from around the world which Rimmer discovered while making the series. Rimmer runs Greens, a vegetarian restaurant in Manchester. Another Soup Dragon is due to open in Manchester's Triangle by the end of the month.
Nando count climbs
Nando's, the Portuguese-style chicken restaurant chain, opens its 33rd British branch in Basildon, Essex, tomorrow. Further restaurants in London's Islington and at Sutton in Surrey are due to open at the end of the month.
Surrey going French
The French Table, a 58-seat restaurant, opens in Surbiton, Surrey, on 26 June. Chef-proprietor Eric Guignard was formerly head chef at the White Onion in Islington for four years. He is offering a French/Mediterranean menu accompanied by more than 40 wines. The site was formerly known as Luca restaurant before Guignard bought and refurbished it for £170,000.
