Oriental group doubles profits

The Oriental Restaurant Group boosted pre-tax profits and turnover in the year to 31 March 1997, in its first annual results since floating in October 1996.

The group runs four London restaurants plus wholesaler Chuanglee, which made a £20,000 loss. However, group profits soared by 110% to £1.4m from £664,000, or by 42% before subtracting exceptional items of £320,000.

The group ended the financial year with a cash balance of £4.6m, 374% up on the previous year's £970,000.
