Parkview expands vision for Battersea
Parkview International, the Hong Kong-based company behind the £1.1b redevelopment of Battersea Power Station in south London, has revealed plans for a third hotel on the 38-acre site.
A spokesman for the company said the 45-bedroom, 14,000sq m Upper World hotel, which has yet to receive planning permission, would sit on top of the main building. It would be an ultra-exclusive "haute couture" hotel, designed by Ron Arad, with room rates of £500-plus, and may be operated by Parkview itself.
Of the two other hotels on the site, the City Resort hotel, which is set to open in 2008, will operate as a five-star Grand Hyatt, with 360 bedrooms, 100 timeshare apartments and a banqueting hall seating 800.
An operator has yet to be found for the 670-bedroom conference hotel, scheduled to open in 2009. Originally planned as one large hotel, it will now be divided into different buildings.
After years of delays the enabling works on the main site are set to be completed in the next few weeks, with advanced construction scheduled to begin at the end of summer.
