Shannon gets top job at Whitbread

Bill Shannon has been named managing director of Whitbread Inns following Wess van Riemsdijk's illness.

Stewart Miller moves into Mr Shannon's previous position as managing director of Whitbread Pub Partnership.

Hopper moves in to driving seat at LTB

Paul Hopper has been brought in as managing director of the Lon-don Tourist Board and Convention Bureau.

Mr Hopper, previously marketing director of Legal & General, will be leading the board's latest marketing drive.

He replaces Colin Hobbs, who is returning to BAA following the completion of his one-year secondment.

Robson-Burrell stars as head chef

Tony Robson-Burrell has moved to Tyddyn Llan Country House Hotel in Llandrillo, Clwyd, as head chef responsible for the 60-seat restaurant.

Mr Robson-Burrell said the restaurant would give him the scope to achieve his aim of earning a Michelin star.

His previous position as head chef at the New Inn, Coln St Aldwyns, Gloucestershire, is being taken by Stephen Morey, previously head chef at Homewood Park, Hinton Charterhouse, Avon.

Partners pool experience

Derek Lockett and Richard Jeffryes have formed Ridek Associates, a kitchen management and kitchen recruitment consultancy based in Bransford, Worcestershire.

The co-partners have more than 20 years' experience in the catering industry, including recent spells as freelance chefs.

Detroit expands restaurant team

Detroit restaurant, in Covent Garden, London, has made three new appointments in the kitchen and front of house.

Stuart Jones joins as sous chef, having previously worked in the same position at the Apollo Bar & Grill, Melbourne, Australia.

New bar manager Dick Bradsell previously worked as bar manager at the Flamingo Bar, London.

Restaurant manager Kevin Curran joins from London restaurant Smollensky's on the Strand.

Feldmar prepares babe Ruth's arrival

Keith Feldmar will take on the role of operations manager at Babe Ruth's restaurant, Tower Bridge, London, which is due to open in mid-April.

Feldmar has spent the past two years researching the Babe Ruth's concept with Conduit Street Restaurants.
