Moore flies in to join bluebird

Michael Moore has been appointed executive head chef of the Bluebird, Conran Restaurants' venture in the King's Road, London, which is set to open in spring 1997.

Mr Moore is returning to England after spending 10 years working at some of the top establishments in Australia. Last year he opened the Bouillon Eatery in Sydney, serving modern Asian and classical dishes.

The Bluebird will include a restaurant and café together with a large foodstore, kitchenware shop, and fruit and vegetable market.

Mr Moore will be working with general manager Mark Chester, who was formerly general manager at Bibendum, and foodstore director Julie Gilgrist, who comes from Marks & Spencer.

All change for churchill team

Two senior appointments have been made to strengthen the team at the 448-bedroom Churchill Inter-Continental London.

Dene Motoike has been promoted to resident manager, after a spell as rooms division manager. Trevor Owen joins the hotel as assistant director of sales, after working as director of corporate accounts at the 692-bedroom Hotel Inter-Continental New York.

Furey quits castle for Lanesborough

Simon Furey has moved to the position of sous chef at the Lanesborough hotel, London, after previously running the kitchen at the Castle Hotel in Windsor, Berkshire. Mr Furey is already working on new summer and vegetarian menus for the hotel's 110-cover Conservatory restaurant.

Replacing him as head chef at the Castle is Paul Bates, who previously worked as senior sous chef at the Swallow Royal hotel in Bristol.

Rankin appointed honorary consul

Jeanne Rankin, joint owner of the Michelin-starred Roscoff restaurant in Belfast, has been appointed Canada's first Honorary Consul to Northern Ireland.

Of Canadian descent, Mrs Rankin will be responsible for developing business and tourism opportunities between the two countries.

Hill takes on new role at foxfields

Mike Hill has joined the 44-suite Foxfields Country Hotel in Clitheroe, Lancashire, as general manager. He is devising plans to add another wing of suites to the hotel in addition to those created two years ago.

Mr Hill previously worked as general manager of the 46-bedroom Springfield Park Hotel in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

Top spot in pride of Britain

George Goring, owner of the 76-bedroom Goring Hotel in London, has been elected deputy chairman of the Pride of Britain consortium.

He will take over chairmanship of the 35-member group of independently owned hotels in 1997.

Relinquishing his role is current chairman Trevor Forecast, who will now return to the full-time running of his 14-bedroom Congham Hall hotel in Grimston, Norfolk.
