Change at stakis for Acorn winner

Former Acorn Award winner Mark Foster has been named general manager of the Stakis Glasgow Grosvenor hotel. He moves from his previous role as general manager of the Stakis, Perth.

Mr Foster takes over from Vasos Violaris, who is transferring to manage the Stakis Glasgow Airport hotel.

At the same time, Graeme Baptie becomes general manager of the Stakis Perth hotel and Ian and Carol Rae have joined the company as general managers of the Stakis Paisley hotel.

Foster takes top job at Marriott

The Marriott Goodwood Park Hotel & Country Club, Chichester, West Sussex, has appointed Gary Foster as executive chef.

Mr Foster joins from the People's Palace restaurant at London's South Bank, where he was junior sous chef. Prior to that he was senior chef de partie at the Greenhouse, in Mayfair, London, and he has also worked at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

Hotel managers set up consultancy

The managers of three Scottish hotels have teamed up to launch a hospitality recruitment consultancy to fill vacancies north of the border.

Solutions, as the company is called, is the brainchild of Lynn Abernethy, Gerry Callaghan and Rosa Di Mascio.

Ms Abernethy was previously general manager at the Edinburgh Capital Moat House, while Mr Callaghan used to work as food and beverage manager at the Caledonian Hotel, Edinburgh. Ms Di Mascio was formerly personnel and training manager at the Glasgow Hilton.

Home county staff join Christie & co

Property agent Christie & Co has appointed two new negotiators to strengthen its nationwide hotels team: Jeremy Jones and Belinda Cornell have joined the London office as negotiators for home counties properties.

Mr Jones joins Christie & Co from the Charter Group, where he worked mainly in the London Docklands market. Ms Cornell joins from property agent Knight Frank.

Star inn rises as pub restaurant

Andrew and Jacquie Pern have acquired the Star Inn, in Harome, near Helmsley, North Yorkshire, a 14th century pub restaurant which opened last week.

Mr and Mrs Pern were head chef and manager at the Milburn Arms Hotel, Rosedale Abbey, in the North Yorkshire Moors, which gained two AA rosettes.

Anthony Gascoigne, commis chef at the Milburn Arms Hotel, also joins them in the new venture, in a similar role.

The Star Inn has a 30-seat restaurant and a 16-seat bar, where Mr Pern plans to serve one menu of modern British food throughout.
