LANDAIS TAKES charge at Hammersmith

CHRISTOPHE Landais this week becomes general manager of the 640-bedroom Novotel at Hammersmith, west London, the chain's biggest property in the UK.

Mr Landais moves from the same role at the Novotel Birmingham International Airport, having been with the chain's parent company, Accor, since 1977.

He replaces Bernard Antoine, an Accor veteran of 20 years' standing, who is shortly to take up responsibility for special projects.

Weir picks Kelly for expansion

JACKIE Kelly has joined Andrew Weir Hotels as sales manager as the company prepares to double its portfolio of four properties.

Mrs Kelly joins from the Royal Chace Hotel in Enfield, north London, where she had been sales and marketing manager for two years.

She told Caterer her post had been created following the company's decision last year to end its relationship with Compass Hotels, whereby Compass marketed the Andrew Weir properties.

The company is looking for four three-star hotels and will pay up to £2m per property, according to Mrs Kelly.

Meanwhile, the company is interviewing candidates for the post of operations director and an announcement is expected shortly.

cook to pilot gatwick crest

SIMON Cook has taken over as general manager of the Forte Crest at Gatwick following the departure of Paul Carty to become general manager of Forte's Dubai International Hotel.

He joins the hotel from the Forte Crest at Glasgow Airport, where he was general manager for three years.

Also new at the hotel is Linda Comber, who has joined as business development manager after three years as sales executive at the Copthorne Gatwick hotel.

Rubens manager joins Green Park

CHRISTINE Malcolm has been named general manager at Sarova Hotels' Green Park Hotel, Mayfair, London.

Ms Malcolm joined the group last April as deputy manager of the nearby Rubens, becoming acting general manager in August until the appointment of Seamus Kirk this year.

Hydro's veteran baker retires

JOHANNAS Protze, the longest serving staff member at Perth's Crieff Hydro Hotel, has retired at the age of 74.

German-born Mr Protze came to Britain after the last war, joining the Hydro in 1952 as a baker. In his younger days he is said to have baked 600 cakes and 60 loaves of bread a day.

John Leckie, the Hydro's managing director, estimated Mr Protze had baked 15 million rolls in his 42 years at the 200-bedroom property. "We will never have another employee with his work record," Mr Leckie added.

Michael Nijdam to UK director of sales for consortium Prima Hotels, from sales manager with sister company the Leading Hotels of the World.

Richard Scobles to general manager of the Swallow Hotel, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, from a similar post at the Wilmslow Moat House, Cheshire.

Lawder Smith to general manager, Swallow Hotel, Stockton, Cleveland, from a similar post at the Forte Crest, Exeter.

Judith Campbell to sales executive, Copthorne Hotels, covering West Sussex, the Sussex coast and Hampshire, from sales manager at Chilston Park country house hotel, near Maidstone, Kent.

Chris Riga to senior vice-president of sales and information services, Meridien Hotels, from a similar position at TSR, the Dallas-based hotel reservations service.

Dawn Holding to sales and marketing manager of Cheshire's Belfry and Stanneylands hotels and Bank Square Café Bar, from area sales manager of Voyager Hotels.

Clare Shannon to recruitment consultant in the UK hotels division of Hocaps, from consultant with Reed Catering.

Mick Shaddock to the new post of commercial director of Sheffield-based Viscount Catering, from commercial manager for the company's Moorwood Vulcan brand.

Sadie Patten to sales manager at the Belmont House Hotel, Leicester.

John Thomson, former deputy chief executive at Brooke Bond and holder of many non-executive directorships, to non-executive chairman, Compass Group.
