Peter Phillips has been promoted from manager to general manager at Holdsworth House hotel, near Halifax.

Chris Bucknall has become chief executive of Granada Purchasing, reporting to Granada Group chief executive Charles Allen. Bucknall, who has been working as a consultant in Europe, set up a successful International Group Purchasing function while chief executive at Compass.

Following the reorganisation of Thistle Hotels' operational regions, Alex Stuart has joined from Greenalls' De Vere Hotels division to be operations director for Thistle's London hotels. Tim Hunt, general manager of the Thistle Glasgow, takes on extra responsibilities for Scotland, while the provinces (hotels not in London or Scotland) are overseen by Alastair McMurrich, formerly operations director for the north.

Laura Harper has moved from manageress of Dundee's Raffles restaurant to become front of house manager at the new Let's Eat Again restaurant in Perth.

Tony Frith, head of Prison Catering Services, is to retire on 25 November after 34 years with the service. His successor has not yet been named.

Forte has recruited Chris Allcoat as general manager for the Yorkshire area, where he will oversee Posthouses in Sheffield, Wakefield, Brighouse, Bramhope and Selby, plus the Queens hotel in Leeds. In the past two years, he has worked for Leeds United FC, the Taz hotel group and Edinburgh's Caledonian Hotel.

Kempinski Hotels & Resorts has appointed Caroline Moody director of international sales for the UK, Ireland and Scandinavia. Moody was director of sales, UK & Ireland, for tour operator Abercrombie & Kent Overseas, and has worked in the hotel and conference markets.

Terry Coyle will be promoted from managing director to vice-chairman of Rail Gourmet UK from 1 January. His former role will be assumed by Bernard Brevot, who will also remain managing director of Rail Gourmet Waterloo International.

Consort Hotels has promoted Angie Fishwick from travel trade sales executive to corporate services manager for business travel in the north of England.

David Sharpe has been named general manager of the 310-bedroom four-star Shaw Park Plaza Hotel, opening on London's Euston Road next summer. He held the same title at the Regents Plaza Hotel and Suites in Maida Vale. Sales and marketing director will be Glenn Carroll, who filled the same slot at the Millennium Chelsea hotel.

John Brackenbury, chairman of Pubmaster, has been appointed a non-executive director of the SFI Group, formerly Surrey Free Inns. He has been a shareholder in the group since it was formed in 1986.

Fiona Balgarnie has joined Summit Hotels and Resorts as marketing manager. She was a consultant for management consultant Pannell Kerr Forster.
