NIGEL EMBRY, chief executive of hotel consortium Best Western, has resigned for family reasons after nine years with the group. Until a replacement is found, chairman John Millican will stand in as acting chief executive. Embry joined Best Western from the South East Tourist Board, building up membership from around 185 to 225 hotels.

ROGER NARBETT, chef to the England football team since 1989, has been appointed executive chef at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham. He joins from the Lygon Arms in Broadway, Worcestershire, where he was head chef for four years.

NEAL CROCKER has left his job as general manager of the Royal County hotel in Durham to become southern operations director in a reshuffle of directors at Swallow Hotels. Meanwhile, JOHN DEIGHAN has left the Swallow Sheffield hotel, where he was general manager, to become operations director for the North.

DUDLEY CLARKE, general manager of Adnams Hotels in Southwold, Suffolk, has been elected chairman of the East Anglian division of the British Hospitality Association. ROBERT GOUGH, general manager of the Angel Hotel in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, is vice-chairman.

ALAN CAMPBELL has taken over as general manager at the Virgin Hotel Collection's Wood Norton Hall in Evesham, Worcestershire. He was general manager of Norton House in Edinburgh.

ALAN BRIDLE is the new chief operating officer of Millennium and Copthorne Hotels. He was president of BHI, a Florida hotel management, development and consulting services company.

PAUL CROSSEY has joined the Pendley Manor Hotel in Tring, Hertfordshire, as deputy general manager. He was conference and banqueting manager at Sopwell House hotel in St Albans, Hertfordshire. Swallow Hotels has strengthened its sales team with two regional executive appointments.

KENDRA GREEN, based in Sheffield, was previously business development manager at the St George hotel in Harrogate, while AMANDA MORTIMER, based in Northampton, transfers from the Sprowston Manor in Norwich.

The Celtic Manor Hotel and Country Club in South Wales has appointed JEAN-PAUL DUGUY, former purchasing manager at EuroDisney, as purchasing director, and JULIE ZAWADZKI, previously training manager at the Hotel Inter-Continental in Miami, as personnel manager.

BRIAN ROBERTS, a former director at market research group BRA, has been appointed sales and marketing controller for Greenalls' golf and leisure clubs. CHRIS CONNOLLY, former marketing manager for Greenalls pubs, has been named F&B sales and marketing manager.

JANE MORLEY-DAVIS has been promoted to UK events manager of reservations firm In Business Reservations, which offers rates for conference facilities and hotel accommodation. She is a former manager of its London events team.
