Newell's career at new heights

Adam Newell is to join London's Fulham Road restaurant next month as head chef.

He replaces Richard Corrigan, who has made a surprise move to the London Stadium Hackney (News, 24 August).

Chambers to set up glasgow dso

Fergus Chambers, depute director of Strathclyde's in-house catering organisation Catering Direct, has been handed the job of setting up a new direct service organisation (DSO) for the City of Glasgow Council.

Between now and 1 April 1996, Mr Chambers will establish a new structure and recruit a management team to run what will be Scotland's largest DSO with turnover of about £45m and 5,700 employees.

His appointment as director of catering and cleaning services for the new City of Glasgow Council comes in the wake of the decision by Strathclyde region's 12 new unitary authorities to disband Catering Direct.

The organisation's director, Avril Robertson, who led a seven-month campaign to save Catering Direct, said she expected to "retire gracefully" when it disbands on 1 April.

Meanwhile, Margaret Lang, Catering Direct's human resources manager, is to join BET Catering Services next month to develop its business and industry division. She will be deputy divisional director under Chris Davies.
