Police chief dies in hotel
A former chief constable who was leading the review of a controversial inquiry into alleged malpractice among some police officers was found dead in a Teesside hotel room last week.
Sir John Hoddinott was appointed in May to carry out a review of the Lancet inquiry for the Home Office. He died in his bedroom at the Thistle hotel in central Middlesbrough. Cleveland police said there were no suspicious circumstances.
Hoddinott, 56, a former chief constable with the Hampshire police, had travelled to Middlesbrough the night before his death with former Detective Chief Superintendent Keith Ackerman, also previously of the Hampshire police.
Ackerman found Hoddinott dead in his bed on Monday 13 August, after he failed to appear at breakfast.
