Job Profile: REVENUE MANAGER

A hotel's revenue manager is responsible for managing the sales of bedrooms and corporate events. Their main function is to maximise the profitabilty of each bedroom or conference space by studying occupancy trends, making forecasts, and then setting rates and prices that will bring the highest financial yield per room.

For example, they will examine and prepare reports on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. These will cover subjects such as how many inquiries the hotel has had, how many people have been turned away and why. They are often empowered to set rates on the spot for last minute bookings.

They will also supervise the day-to-day activities and duties of the reservations department.

Skill requirements will include some good knowledge of reservations and/or conference and banqueting management. Good IT skills are essential as there can be complicated accounting and property management systems to manipulate. General experience in man management, strong communication, problem solving and flexibility are also fundamental.
