Profits slide at Gowrings

British Burger King franchisee Gowrings has reported a fall in profits for 2000.

In its restaurant division operating profit fell from £2.3m in 1999 to £1.8m last year. Like-for-like sales were down 2%.

Overall restaurant sales increased by 11% to £29m, helped by acquisitions and new openings during the year.

Chairman John Fowles described 2000 as a "difficult year" for its Burger King restaurants.
