Pub conference tackles licensing law questions
The annual Publican Conference on 13 November provides a chance for delegates to put questions to Kim Howells, licensing minister, and Susie Kemp, chairman of the Local Government Association, about the forthcoming licensing reforms. The conference will also address the value of long-term investments and the opportunities in the pub industry in 2004.
There will also be a series of short presentations focusing on people. Subjects include targeting female customers, providing incentive schemes for staff and improving the relationships between landlord and licensee.
BJ Cunningham, founder of the Enlightened Tobacco Company, which marketed the DEATH brand cigarettes, will also be speaking about the controversy caused by this brand.
In the evening the Publican Pub Food Awards take place. Fifteen awards, including Best British Food, Newcomer of the Year and Retail Brand of the Year, will be presented to reward businesses and individuals in pub catering.
Both the conference and food awards take place at the Queen Elizabeth II conference centre in Westminster, London. Tickets for the conference cost £440 plus VAT per person. Conference delegates can also buy tickets for the awards ceremony at a reduced rate of £80 per person (normal rate £90).
