Pub group SFI sees more growth ahead

Pub operator SFI Group, owner of the Bar Med and Litten Tree chains, has reported a 52% rise in pre-tax profits to £11.2m during the year to 31 May. Sales rose by 51% to £61.7m.

Developments during the year included the £27.7m acquisition of rival chain Slug & Lettuce, agreed in June.

Chairman Tony Hill said: "SFI is evolving from being a small player in a highly fragmented market to becoming a sector leader."

He added that the For Your Eyes Only table-dancing club group acquired when SFI bought Richardson's Inns in 1997 would be demerged some time after the opening of its fourth club, in London's Mayfair.

SFI plans to open 25 pubs this year.
