Pub Operator of the Year

Pub Operator of the Year

Sponsored by the UK's largest cash and carry operator, Booker, the Pub Operator of the Year Award is one of the most coveted Cateys, the catering industry's answer to the Oscars. All individuals who own, run or manage a pub with a strong food element are eligible for nomination, and the eventual winners will be recognised for their outstanding contribution to the highly competitive and increasingly diverse pub business.

As Booker's marketing director Steven Sharp says: "While being good enough to be nominated for this award is a challenge, winning is a real coup. All nominees need to be truly multi-talented, being able to demonstrate strong financial and business planning skills as well as a creative use of available resources and an energetic and imaginative approach to their business as a whole. They must also be excellent hosts and show total commitment to staff, together with support for, and involvement in, the wider community."

But it is the winning ingredient of providing exceptional food that is likely to tip the balance in the closely fought competition. As pub catering continues to grow at a rapid rate, everyone involved in the business needs to be constantly innovating in terms of the food and beverages they offer. Consumers are now very much the leaders in this area and are ever more demanding in terms of quality, variety and presentation.

"Pub catering has transformed over the past decade into a genuinely exciting and dynamic sector," says Sharp. "With 300,000 independent catering customers to our name, a significant number of whom are pub caterers, we're proud to be sponsors of the Pub Operator of the Year Award.

"In order to ensure that our customers keep their customers satisfied, we need to stay one step ahead of trends and developments in the business - which means that we're all in the same boat when it comes to excelling in terms of both products and service."
