RAC chases down guide rating fraud

The RAC said last week that there have been at least four cases this year of hotels claiming guide ratings which they do not hold.

The organisation was commenting after the 30-bedroom Leamington hotel and bistro in Leamington Spa was fined more than £3,000 at Mid-Warwickshire Magistrates Court for falsely claiming an RAC Blue Ribbon Award. The hotel pleaded guilty but claimed that the case had arisen from a misunderstanding.

The hotel was investigated by trading standards officers in the county following a complaint in October last year.
