Regal may take private route

REGAL Hotel Group has confirmed it is in talks with another organisation which could take the company private.

It is understood that the group is in discussions with Alchemy Partners, a venture capital fund that could finance Regal in a management buyout.

In a statement to the Stock Exchange last week, Regal said it was considering "all strategic options that may enhance shareholder value". It added that one of the options being considered was an offer for the company.

A deal with Alchemy could increase Regal's value by £40m. It is currently valued at about £81m.

The group, which has 91 hotels, has expanded rapidly over the past four years with a string of acquisitions. But since July it has sold off 12 of its smaller hotels in preparation for the introduction of a new brand name.
