Restaurant fined £8,000

A restaurant owner has been fined £8,000 at Thames Magistrates' Court for running unhygienic kitchens.

Ali Seyfi, of Floria Restaurant in Kingsland Road, Hackney, was convicted last Wednesday of 12 offences under the Food Safety Regulations Act 1995. He had earlier pleaded guilty to a further eight offences.

Inspectors found black grease on the floor, mouse droppings under the sink and on the cooker, a nail brush full of meat scraps and a sink blocked with minced meat. Seyfi was fined £5,000 and costs of £3,000 were awarded to the prosecutors, Hackney Council.
