Restaurateur put cook in tumble dryer

A restaurant owner in France stuffed an apprentice female cook in a tumble dryer and switched it on.

The man, who runs a restaurant in the Loire valley, received a six-month suspended jail sentence and was fined €459 (£290) after being found guilty of armed violence and abusing and humiliating an employee. He claimed she had been careless.

A tribunal in Montbrison ordered him to pay an additional €1,219 (£780) to the cook, the Dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace Web site reported last week. The restaurateur was not named.

"Each time the dryer's drum turned, I fell and was hurt pretty badly," the cook said.
