Retail Name in Foodservice
Indus has signalled its intention to become one of the top five players in the UK and Eire market with the launch of Findus Foodservices.
The UK frozen foodservice market is worth £2.4 billion a year and Findus Foodservices, which is already successfully operating in other European markets, is backing its UK launch with more than £1 million.
The products for Findus' new venture will be produced at Longbenton in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and at more than 10 other sites. The company will bring a combination of tried and tested favourites, new fish products - including Fish Gratins and the Skipper range, a varied selection of vegetarian meals and a new range of Swedish specialities.
Tim Pegg, managing director of Findus Foodservices UK said: "We aim to be a distinctive new force in the UK foodservice market delivering exceptional and innovative new ideas to the marketplace.
"We are bringing distinctive, quality products to the UK market through our approach which is all about more thought for food. Our Fish Gratins provide caterers with a new and innovative way of serving fish, whilst Findus Green Meals are a range of vegetarian options unlike anything else on the market."
All the fish dishes have been developed using cod stocks that are currently healthy and sustainable from the Baltic and North Atlantic and some fish from South America.
The Skipper range serves up crispy-coated fish in three different sizes - full size, fun size and fingers. Skipper products provide a shoal of different recipes, some of which are gluten free and so ideal for customers with gluten allergy.
The Skipper full size range consists of Crispies - pieces of cod or fish fillet coated in breadcrumbs and Crunchies - fish in a crunchy crumb coating. There are also simple Cod Portions and Cod Portions with Parsley. Products come in different quantities per case from 40 to 55 portions and can be prepared by cooking in a combi or convection oven or deep-frying.
Skipper Fun Size products put the fun into kids' fish dishes, with three varieties: Mini Cod Crispies, Mini Fish Crispies and Mini Cod Crunchies available in cases of 60 Crispies or 67 Crunchies. Kids can also choose Findus Skipper Fish Fingers, available in two sizes - standard and double. With the emphasis on quality they are available in cod or fish varieties.
The Green Meals range aims to offer caterers the chance to extend and enhance their vegetarian menu.
There's a range of eight innovative vegetarian meal alternatives including Mediterranean Falafel Nuggets (15g portions; 266 x 15g case), a delicious combination of chick peas, onions, peas and seasoning; and Carrot Grills (60g portions; 66 x 60g), a mix of carrot, cheese, onion, potato and chick peas. There are two additional varieties of Grills - Beetroot and Celery.
Other products include Pesto Lasagne (280g portion; 20 x 280g) freshly made pasta with a spinach and pesto filling and a cheese sauce topping and Couscous Mediterranean (1 x 6kg), a seasoned mix of couscous and eight vegetables, carrots, beans, broccoli, red pepper, onion, aubergine, lentils and garlic. Broccoli Gratin and Swedish Vegetable Brunch complete the range.
The new business will also be bringing to market its Traditional Swedish specialities, including meatballs in four varieties - Findus is Sweden's number one supplier of meatballs - and the traditional Swedish brunch, Pytti Panna, a selection of potatoes with beef and/or pork, available in four different recipes.
Findus Crispy Pancakes - already a firm favourite in the retail sector, particularly with children - are being brought onto the foodservice menu for the first time. The crispy pancakes, are available in a choice of four fillings - real cheddar sauce, minced beef and onion with gravy, chunky chicken in a mushroom sauce and chunky chicken and bacon in a white sauce. Other products will be introduced in year two once the company has established a firm foothold in the market.
