Riverside hotel plans fade

Plans to build another hotel near the five-star Four Seasons along the bank of the River Thames have been dropped.

The Canary Riverside site at Westferry Circus was originally intended to be a mixed residential and leisure development, possibly to include a hotel. But the plan did not proceed beyond outline planning development.

The project was a joint venture between Canary Wharf and two Singapore companies, one headed by hotelier Ong Beng Seng.

Canary Wharf is buying out its partners for £34m, to regain full control of the two-hectare site.
