Ronay takes on Welcome Break

Critic Egon Ronay has signed up with motorway services operator Welcome Break in a bid to help it improve its food.

The operation will start with tastings of about 350 items of food and drink in order to set down standards. From the end of September, Ronay and seven inspectors will go out on the road to test and regularly inspect Welcome Break's 23 service stations around the UK.

By early next year, each service station will be awarded zero, one, two or three stars, which will be prominently displayed to allow motorists to choose between different Welcome Breaks and create competition within the company.
