Save your ticket money – see the game in a pub

Football fans could save a staggering £2,720 a year by watching games in the pub rather than on the terraces, according to a poll conducted by pub operator Spirit.

The group found that the cost of attending 40 Premiership games in a season - including travel, tickets, food and drink, a match programme and a new-season shirt - averaged £3,160, or £79 per game.

Watching the same matches at their local would cost fans just £11 a game, or £440 a season.

Spirit unashamedly announced that punters could spend their savings on 6,044 packets of crisps, 1,648 pints of lager or 584 plates of scampi and chips.
