Scholarship is handed down

Matthew Tomkinson, the 29-year-old junior sous chef at Michelin-starred Ockenden Manor in West Sussex, made history on Monday (4 April) by becoming the first protégé of a Roux Scholar to win the prestigious competition.

He has worked with 1989 Roux Scholar Martin Hadden, group executive chef of Historic Sussex Hotels, of which Ockenden is part, for two-and-a-half years. See Caterer on 21 April for a full report on the 2005 Roux Scholarship.
