Scotsman recruits from the top

The Scotsman hotel in Edinburgh, which is due to open in early April, will employ a number of key staff recruited from other British five-star hotels, including its head concierge from the nearby Balmoral hotel, likely to be a close rival for business.

The Scotsman's resident manager will be Andrew Stembridge, formerly operations manager at Chewton Glen, New Milton, Hampshire, who joins on 19 April.

Two other senior staff come from top Scottish hotels.

The group rooms division manager will be Sally McCleod, who was front of house manager at Gleneagles, Auchterardar, Perthshire and Kinross. She starts work at the Scotsman tomorrow (Friday).

Andrew Buchanan, director of operations at the Scotsman group, has also employed Joseph Winders, head concierge at the Balmoral. He starts work at the Scotsman on 1 February.

Another starter this month is Ainsley Jardine, who will be the Scotsman group's human resources director. He was formerly with Makro stores.
