Self-sufficient country hotels
THE Calcot Manor country house hotel in Tetbury, Wiltshire is one of a growing number of hotels which has opted for on-premises laundering of table-linen, towels and staff uniforms to ensure consistent standards and day-to-day control.
Another is Chewton Glen in New Milton, Hampshire, which has now upgraded its on-premises laundry facilities to the point where it can launder all bed and table linen plus towels.
Previously, the hotel laundered its own towels and sent bed and table linen to a commercial laundry but it augmented its single washer and dryer with three washers, three tumble dryers and an ironer and recently added a further ironer and washer.
Supplier Electrolux has also developed solutions for high street caterers, an example being the 6kg capacity WE61(QSR)microprocessor-controlled heavy duty washer-extractors used at branches of McDonald's Hamburgers.
Cold water sluicing and pre-washing with high concentrations of chemicals helps break down fat when processing cleaning cloths.
The machines were specially designed to avoid problems of rubber seal destruction experienced with the heavy duty domestic washing previously used.
