Senior managers should resist itchy feet
Managers in hospitality should stay in their jobs for up to five years, say industry experts.
A survey of 16 recruitment consultants and industry experts carried out by Caterer.com found that 12 to 18 months was the ideal length to stay in a job for hospitality workers up to supervisor level.
But those in a more senior position, such as general manager, should stay up to five years, said the consultants.
Lesley Reynolds, managing director of Portfolio International, said managers in more senior positions need to prove that their management style works before they move on.
Good managers will stay for three to five years so they can demonstrate the positive effects of their efforts, she added.
Suzanna Hunter, director of Chess Partnership, said managers need to see through the successful implementation of a budget, and be able to use budgets to assess their performance, make suggestions and see improvements.
