Six catering staff treated for burns

An investigation is under way after six catering staff at the BT offices in Nottingham suffered burns last week.

The injuries are thought to have been a result of a chemical reaction or spillage, following overnight cleaning.

The staff, including the catering manager, a chef and four customer service assistants working at the Castle Wharf regional offices, needed hospital treatment for burns to hands and legs.

Caterer Eurest Sutcliffe and cleaning contractor ISS said in a joint statement: "Health and safety is a key issue for BT, Eurest Sutcliffe and ISS. An investigation into the accident has been launched by the respective health and safety teams."

A spokeswoman for Nottingham City Council confirmed that the environmental health department had begun a formal accident investigation as a result of the incident.
