S&N reports mixed trading
Pub, restaurant and hotel operator Scottish & Newcastle (S&N) has reported a season of mixed trading, with the impact of the football World Cup and poor weather posing "short-term challenges".
The UK retail business - which includes S&N's 1,500 pubs, Chef & Brewer restaurants and Premier Lodge hotels - saw like-for-like sales rise by just 1%.
But speaking today at the group's annual general meeting, chairman Sir Brian Stewart said the first half of this year had been "satisfactory".
He added: "We remain confident of meeting our financial and commercial objectives for the year."
