Sold: from Land's End to John O'Groats

Leisure entrepreneur Kevin Leech last week paid close to £6m for Land's End and John O'Groats, which have been on the market since January.

The UK's most northerly and westerly points were acquired by Mr Leech as a private investment from New Zealand firm Gulf Resources Pacific, which had set a guidance price of £5.5m.

The package, which currently has a combined annual turnover of about £3.5m, includes the 33-bedroom Land's End Hotel and 18-bedroom John O'Groats House Hotel. The latter carries planning permission for expansion and refurbishment.

Mr Leech, who is executive chairman of leisure company Queensborough Holdings and has a number of other leisure- and technology-related investments, is currently assessing the options at the two sites.

In a statement this week he hinted at changes and referred to "untapped opportunities at both locations".

He added that he planned to "further raise the quality of the operations and increase visitors' experience".
