Speyside Smiffy's on the market
One of Scotland's top fish-and-chip shops, Smiffy's in Grantown-on-Spey, Highlands, is up for sale with a price tag of more than £275,000.
The take-away and 51-cover restaurant, along with the Smiffy's name and all business furniture and equipment, is being sold by the Smith family to allow them develop a Harry Ramsden's restaurant in Inverness.
Building work on this £1.5m project has just started and the 200-seat restaurant is scheduled to open mid-March. It will be the first Harry Ramsden's that is not a joint venture, with all the investment coming from the Smith family.
The Smith family will retain sister fish-and-chip shop, Smiffy's in Aviemore.
Alan Smith said he was sorry to have to sell the shop that the family acquired just two years ago. At the time, £250,000 was spent on refurbishment. "It is unfortunate that we have to sell, but Harry Ramsden's is a high-level investment and I can't be in three places at once," said Mr Smith.
Spend per head at Smiffy's in Grantown-on-Spey is £3.60 at the take-away and more than £5 in the restaurant.
The sale is being handled by the Inverness office of Graham & Sibbald.
