Stakis apologises to TUC leader

Stakis last week issued a public apology to a trade union leader after a row over an alleged disturbance at one of its hotels in Perth.

The chain also agreed to pay £1,500 to a Scottish charity in recognition of the "embarrassment and distress" caused to Campbell Christie, general secretary of the Scottish Trades Union Congress.

The row started last April when Mr Christie - whom Stakis described as "one of our best customers" - attended a reception at the Stakis City Mills Hotel.

A member of staff accused him of refusing to pay for drinks and food and of causing a disturbance in the hotel. The staff member then alerted other pubs in Perth by entering Mr Christie's name in a computerised network, Pub Watch.

Stakis last week admitted that the allegations were "entirely untrue".
