Stakis sheds one hotel and buys more

Stakis was in the unusual position of selling a hotel last week, in a complicated deal that also saw it buy another property and the freehold of one of its existing hotels.

The 62-bedroom Stakis Badenoch Hotel was sold for £1.1m to Aviemore Mountain Resort (AMR), a subsidiary of Premier Land. As part of the deal, AMR sold to Stakis the 98-bedroom Douglas Hotel in Aberdeen for £3.6m and the freehold of the Stakis Four Seasons Hotel in Aviemore for £700,000.

The Douglas will be renamed the Stakis Aberdeen City Hotel and will undergo an £800,000 refurbishment over the next year. The Badenoch will continue to be operated by Stakis until June this year.

The deal leaves Stakis with two hotels in the Aviemore ski-resort, the 88-bedroom Four Seasons and the 175-bedroom Stakis Coylumbridge.

A Stakis spokeswoman said: "We are committed to our remaining hotels at the resort."

Separately, Stakis has sealed a deal with Saltire to buy the 44-bedroom Craigendarroch Hotel and timeshare development at Ballater, Grampian, on the River Dee for £3.9m.

Craigendarroch will be Stakis's third timeshare. The hotel will be renamed the Stakis Balmoral.
