Steam heat

Gaggia has introduced a new method of making tea which requires no brewing, no teapot and no tea bag.

Developed by The Steam Company, Steam Tea is made in the same way as espresso coffee. A measured amount of tea leaves are put into the espresso machine before applying steam pressure to force hot water through the leaves. The process takes only 20 seconds and produces a smooth cup of tea in terms of strength, flavour, colour and aroma.

Steam Tea can be made on all Gaggia's traditional, manual machines including the Gran Gaggia model, which can take tea and coffee.

To test the market for Steam Tea, a trial was carried out at Sheffield University among students in the campus canteen, where blindfolded participants where asked to tell the difference between regular tea and Steam Tea. The result? A total of 87.5 per cent of students chose Steam Tea rather than regular tea. The university then decided to stock Steam Tea and has seen sales rise by 18 per cent since October 2001.
