Superdome kicks off
Preparation work started last week on the National Superdome, a £200m project to create a multipurpose conference and leisure complex at Bradford, West Yorkshire.
It is planned that as well as sports and entertainment facilities, the 70-acre site will feature a 325-bedroom, three-star standard hotel and a 325-bedroom, five-star standard hotel.
Building is expected to start this autumn with construction firm Laing Yorkshire responsible for erecting the 65,000-seat sports facility centred on Odsal Stadium.
"The 20 million inhabitants who live within two hours' travel time of Odsal will have access to a world-beating complex," said John Garside, National Superdome's chief executive.
If the ambitious plans come to fruition, the site will also offer bars, restaurants, a multi-screen cinema, an indoor theme-park, a shopping mall, nightclubs, casino, and the largest free space exhibition hall in the UK. Construction is scheduled to complete in 1998.
