Surge likely as WTB switches on database
The Wales Tourist Board (WTB) is to launch a database of hotels in a drive to market their conference and business facilities more efficiently.
The computerised list, which will go on line this summer, is expected to carry the details of 150-200 hotels.
When companies call the WTB asking for information about conference facilities they will be told about the hotels that match their requirements. Any leads will then be passed on to the hotels. It will be a free service for both parties.
In August, the WTB also plans to start running training seminars for hoteliers who want to cater for business and conference guests.
"There will be a minimal cost of £10-£15 and speakers will tell them what is involved," said Pat Crimp, marketing manager, travel trade and business travel at the WTB.
The WTB said that since its business travel unit was set up two-and-a-half years ago, hotels and conference centres have won £11m of business.
