Surveyors firm sued over hotel valuations

Edward Symmons, the firm of surveyors, is being sued by the Cheltenham & Gloucester building society over valuations conducted on hotels once owned by the Verjee family.

Chris Honeywill, a partner at Edward Symmons, said the legal action would be vigorously defended.

"The valuations were at the height of the market. It's surprising that it has taken over five years for action to start," he told Caterer.

A spokeswoman for Cheltenham & Gloucester confirmed that writs had been issued but declined to comment further.

However, it is believed the biggest property involved was the Coburg in London (now owned by Stakis).
