Swallow in £20m bid for Manor

Swallow Hotels has formally tabled an offer of £20m for East Anglia-based Manor Hotels.

The three properties owned by the group are the four-star Sprowston Manor in Norwich, the three-star Belstead Brook Manor in Ipswich and the three-star Churchgate Manor in Old Harlow, Essex, which boast 267 rooms between them.

The move is the result of a review in which Swallow decided that all its hotels must have extensive leisure, conference and meeting facilities. Last year it sold five hotels that did not have leisure clubs or had inadequate car parking. The proceeds from that sale are now being used to buy Manor Hotels.

The purchase will take Swallow's portfolio to 35. All existing staff will be retained.
