The Zagat Survey celebrates 25 years this year. Starting as a hobby for husband-and-wife team Nina and Tim Zagat, the business now publishes guides for 70 cities worldwide, including movie, music, hotel and a new family travel guide, and boasts 250,000 registered surveyors worldwide.

Here are some of their comments which were deemed not fit for print.

"A Petri dish experiment gone horribly, horribly wrong."

"I get sick from the food every time. At least it has consistency."

"Suffers from delusions of adequacy."

"Saves fuel bills - the heartburn will keep you warm all winter."

"Like a skunk, it's small, it's cute and it stinks."

"At 26, you're a senior citizen."

"Gets an ‘A' for attitude."

"About as Chinese as tacos."

"Should be renamed Barfing Dog."
